To get started, after the PurposeTab extension is installed, just open a new tab in Google Chrome and it should automatically display.
As of September 8th 2026: I’m sorry to say PurposeTab no longer offers connecting your Google account for a Google Calendar feed and/or data backup via Google Drive. It started to require consistent maintenance to prevent bugs, and I do not have the capacity to continue to monitor and update it to keep up with it.

What is PurposeTab?
- PurposeTab is best used as a simple, flexible, quick “personal clarity dashboard” to keep the most important things top-of-mind. It works well in tandem with more complex productivity tools.
- PurposeTab is designed to appear every single time you open a new tab. I wanted it to be easy and automatic to see all of this key information in one place without having to think about it -- so I thought for it to appear on every new tab was the way to go.
- There are times when you probably want to hide your PurposeTab setup (e.g. on a screenshare or in a public place). There is a quick switch in the settings icon in the top left corner to toggle privacy mode on/off.
- PurposeTab is designed to be flexible, quick to configure, and to automatically be top of mind. It is not designed to be a long-term tool to store data/records.
The core features of PurposeTab:
- Images representing your goals / what you’re working towards: with titles and due dates you can add to each. Images are shown one at a time in an auto-scrolling gallery (with arrow controls) unless you upload four images, in which case, the grid option becomes available to display all four at once (you can adjust this in the settings). Hover over each image for the title and date to come up (if you added them). If you upload four images and want to still see them display one at a time, go to the settings menu (the gear icon in the top left corner) and select that option.
- A daily mantra, focus, or intention you can enter: resets daily at 12am local time (and an ongoing mantra, if you wish).
- A list of daily habits that you can add, delete, and check off: they stay fixed (unless you adjust them), but automatically uncheck daily at 12am local time.
- To-do list: A simple to-do list where you can add, delete, and check off items.
- Privacy toggling: Multiple options, e.g. when you’re in a public place or in a meeting
- Daily journaling and reflection: Easily reflect throughout/at the end of your day, and then easily be able to review all of your journal entries over time.
- Notepad: Displays when you click the small notepad icon in the top right corner of the left sidebar. Content auto-saves until it is deleted by you.
To ensure you don't lose your data:
- While using this extension, if you ever go to clear your browsing data in Chrome, please never select “since the beginning of time” (or you will lose your data).
